Stormwater Management Plan
Illegal Storm Drain Dumping
It is against City ordinance to sweep or discard any materials, litter, or trash into the City's storm drainage system. Such materials may not only block the system causing localized flooding, but also cause or contribute to water pollution. Such items include, but are not limited to:
- leaves
- fertilizers
- pesticides
- hazardous waste
- yard waste
- limbs
- branches
- trash
- concrete
- paint
- oil
- grease
- fireworks
- waste water
To report illegal dumping in a City storm drain (also known as an illicit discharge), notify the Public Works Department by calling (816) 690-3773.
Erosion Control
The purpose of erosion control is to mitigate the migration of soils into waterways.
Storm Control Structures
The purpose of storm detention basins and other storm control structures is to temporarily store stormwater runoff, thereby reducing the peak rate of runoff to a stream or storm sewer. They help prevent localized flooding and, if designed to do so, provide some water quality benefits and reduce streambank erosion downstream.
