Wastewater Treatment Facility

The City of Oak Grove's Wastewater Treatment Facility was constructed in 2006.  The City of Oak Grove's Wastewater Treatment Plant has a design flow of 1.3 million gallons a day with a peak design daily flow of 5.2 million gallons a day. The Sewer Plant Operators maintain the plant and pump stations and are responsible for the collection of wastewater and its conveyance to the treatment facility through 8 lift stations in a safe and cost-effective manner.  This includes effectively operating a biological treatment plant that includes both finishing clarifiers and UV disinfection.  The four main components of our Wastewater Treatment Plant are as follows:

  1. Headworks: in this process sewage enters the plant into a pre-screening of debris and a grit removal system.
  2. Aeration Basin: in this process air is pumped into the wastewater, increasing oxygen and allowing beneficial bacteria to grow while breaking down organic matter.
  3. Finishing Clarifiers: in this process the clarifier separates solid particles from liquid wastewater allowing the solids to settle to the bottom of the basin.
  4.  Ultra Violet Disinfection:  in this process UV disinfects the final product before leaving the plant and making its way to nearby streams.
