Community Development

The City of Oak Grove has adopted the 2012 International Codes.

The Building Permits and Codes Inspection subdivision is responsible for the following activities:

  • Receiving and reviewing building plans and permit applications.
  • Answering building code-related questions.
  • Conducting inspections of buildings during various stages of construction and remodeling.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations of the City.
  • Tracking and keeping records of completed building inspections.

Oak Grove City Zoning regulations require that a building permit be issued for most renovation and construction work in the City, including interior remodeling, additions, decks or patios, driveway and roof replacements, fences and walls, generators, satellite dishes, irrigation systems, new structures, pools and spas, and sport courts.

Exceptions include minor repairs or purely cosmetic updates such as painting and wallpapering. Please contact City Hall to discuss your project with the Building Official at 816-690-3773 ext 1006 or 1008.
