Parks and Recreation Events
The information below describes only a few events organized by the Oak Grove Parks and Recreation Department. For a complete list of events please contact us at (816) 690-4003.  Please remember that class dates and times are subject to change. 
  • Program Evaluation Form: If you have participated in one of our programs or activities, please take the time to download this form, fill it out and return it to us so we can learn how to better serve your recreational needs.

Hunter Safety Class - This course will teach you and your children to be safe responsible hunters.  Children must be at least 11 years old and show proof of age.  The Missouri Department of Conservation's staff and trained volunteer instructors teach these courses to people across the state.  The class also complies with the Safe Schools Act.  Students will receive training of firearms, proper firearms use, hunting traditions, ethics, conservation, safe hunting practices and hunting responsibilities.  Go to www.mdc.mo.gov for online reservations.  Please note that you must complete the written test portion of this class PRIOR to coming to this session.  You can either go online and complete the test there (print out your results) or you can get a class book from the Department of Conservation office and complete the test by hand.

Basic Obedience Class - Does your dog need to learn to behave properly or sit on command?  In this session, you and your dog will learn the commands for sit, sit-stay, come, attention, down, down-stay, stand and heel.  the class is a one hour class and runs for 7 weeks (first week of class is for humans only).  Dogs must be at least 5 months old in order to participate and must have a collar and 4' or 6' long leash.  No retractable leashes.  We also offer a Puppy Obedience Class and the Advanced Obedience class.  Please check the calendar for the dates on those classes.

MLB Pitch, Hit and Run Competition - The Pitch, Hit and Run Competition is intended to encourage youth participation and to emphasize the "FUN" element of competition.  This program is free of charge so every boy or girl age 7 - 14 will have a chance to compete.  The competition will be split between boys and girls.  The winners in each age division and gender will then advance to the Sectional Competition (which will be held here in Oak Grove!) with hopes of advancing further to the Team Championship which will be held at Kauffman Stadium.  You will be able to sign up at the event if you choose to.

Mother/Son Dance - Mom, Grandma, Aunt, or friends, this is an excellent chance to grab your boy(s) and spend some quality time together.  You both will get a chance to enjoy a catered dinner, dance to some hot tunes, and snap a picture to remember the night!  Be sure to dress up for this special night.  You must pre-register and pay for this event by Monday, May 14 (earlier registration is appreciated) in order to receive the pre-registration discount.

Tots in the Park - Bring the little ones (ages 0 to Pre-K) out to Webb Park during the beautiful summer days for some fun play time, a snack, and story time.  Each time we will have a special guest bring a book to read to the kids.  Registration is required prior to event.  Please come by the Parks office to register.

Youth Tennis Camps - The younger division camp is for children ages 6-9 and will concentrate on teaching the basic skills of the game as well as proper form. The older division camp is for children ages 10-14 and will review basic skills then work on the harder aspects such as serving and actual playing of games. All campers will receive a t-shirt and a sleeve of tennis balls. Be sure to bring your own racquet! Spaces are limited and go fast!

Time:   Young Camp (ages 6-9) - 8:30-9:30 am; Older Camp (ages 10-14) - 9:30 - 11:00 am

Fee:     $15 per camper

Movie Night in the Park - Bring the whole family out to Webb Park to enjoy some time together!  There will be a movie shown outdoors on the big screen.  So bring your blankets and chairs and settle in for a night under the stars. If there is bad weather, the movie will be rescheduled.  Movies will be announced closer to event dates.  And be sure to check out the special "Dive In Movie Night" that will be held at the new pool on Friday, July 13th!

Dear Santa... - He's making his list and he's checking it twice, but he's waiting to hear from you!  Put your Christmas wishes in writing and drop a self-addressed stamped envelope and letter to Santa in our special mailbox located in front of the Civic Center to receive a special note directly from St. Nick.

Holiday Homes Lighting Contest - Do you decorate your home at Christmas time? Then why not enter in our holiday homes lighting contest? It's free of charge to you and the top four homes will win a sign that says they have one of the top decorated homes in the city as well as a special prize.  The judging will happen on Monday, December 10.  The winners will be notified the next day.  Please register your house in the contest by 4:30 pm on Monday, December 10th.
